Quick take: Axios is a media company dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news content in an audience-first format. We’re hiring a Chief People Officer who will report into our CEO and serve on the Executive Team. As Axios scales from a startup to a media enterprise, we are looking for an HR veteran who can scale their function to support a thriving media company.

Go Deeper: In this strategic role, you will make an impact to Axios through the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee human resource functions and an HR organization of 30+, including Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Employee Experience, and Compliance and Benefits
  • Manage and mentor senior leaders who oversee HR functions, enabling a team to create the HR roadmap and identify processes / systems that scale
  • Innovate on our DEI philosophy, infusing components of each DEI pillar into the full life-cycle of an employee’s experience
  • Serve as the strategic business partner to the CEO and the Executive Leadership team by providing strategic and operational guidance
  • Establish and standardize human resource policies and procedures across the company correlating from our Axios core values; building and reinforcing an inclusive, results-driven culture of accountability and trust
  • Identify and embed the latest relevant HR trends and best practices
  • Develop and implement programs that produce superior employee engagement, including communication strategies to inform and activate all levels of employees
  • Develop and implement a performance based culture that is adaptable to a hyper-growth media company
  • Partner with Operations to define and track metrics for success
  • Ensure all HR activities and operations are performed in compliance with applicable laws, partnering with Legal and Compliance
  • Bring holistic knowledge of total rewards and compensation philosophy

The details: This is a People-centric role that requires superior communication skills, leading with empathy and guiding with authenticity. Ideal candidates will also have the following skills:

  • 15+ years experience in managing, building and leading People functions
  • Skilled in driving organization / culture change, employee engagement, change management at scale
  • Proactive, approachable and people-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
  • Hands-on leader comfortable spending time with sub-functions to understand and engage with the workforce
  • A commanding executive presence, with ability to distill and communicate dense HR metrics to non-HR leaders that can be easily consumable
  • Strong business acumen, demonstrating intellectual curiosity with a quantitative approach to the business

Base salary for this role is in the range of $225k – $325k and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation benefits.
