As a Content Marketing Manager you will create engaging narratives and content to drive discovery and demand for Sourcegraph. Working alongside a technical content research manager, you will leverage original research, primary sources, search terms, and customer insights to write articles, blog posts, guides, and reports related to Sourcegraph’s key use cases and business solutions. You will play a key role in establishing trust and authority with Sourcegraph’s target audiences and support lead generation.

As a foundational content team member, you will be deeply involved in building our content operations and production processes. As part of the content marketing team, you will participate in planning and executing quarterly content pillars, interview subject matter experts to help them bring their stories to life, and will be responsible for ensuring content meets our quality and brand standards.

Within one month:

  • Learn about our content marketing strategy, audience, and topics
  • Meet with your peers on the marketing, product, and engineering teams and make connections with subject matter experts from across the company
  • Become proficient in explaining our core use cases and products
  • Create your first piece of content

Within three months:

  • Create project plans and outline key milestones for content creation
  • Start creating your first content resource
  • Publish a few topic articles
  • Partner with customer marketing to create customer stories
  • Experiment with innovative content formats

Within six months:

  • Manage content projects from start to finish
  • Leverage keyword research to guide content creation
  • Produce multiple articles and content resources
  • Propose new content ideas
  • Identify content repurposing opportunities
  • Audit and optimize existing content

Within one year:

  • You will have built an impressive library of content for multiple use cases
  • You will have built strong relationships with key stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Identify highest priority net new content needs
  • Perform content gap analysis for existing use case pillars

About you 

You are an experienced content creator who is passionate about developer experience and engineering culture. You’re ready to dive deep into topics like tech debt, developer velocity, and managing large codebases and write original, helpful, thought-provoking content for developers and engineering managers. You don’t need to have an engineering background or to be able to code, but you are comfortable tackling technical topics and are excited about working with engineers, product managers, and other subject matter experts. Above all, you are strongly aligned with our values, inspired by our mission to make it so that everyone can code, and motivated to do your best work at Sourcegraph.


  • 3+ years of content marketing experience
  • You are comfortable creating narrative arcs that pull people through a content journey
  • You have experience managing large content projects; you know how to gather research, evidence, and formulate a convincing argument
  • You are familiar with the content pillar model and know how to repurpose and reformat content
  • You are self-directed and comfortable working independently
  • You have a proficient understanding of SEO best practices
  • You are an excellent communicator and able to work collaboratively to complete projects

Nice to haves:

  • Previous experience writing about technical software engineering topics
  • Background in developer marketing or software engineering

  5. [30 min] Final interview with Erica Lindberg, Director of Content Strategy
  6. Any other informal conversations with people who you would be working closely with but didn’t get to meet during the interview process.
