Quick Take: Axios is a growth-stage startup dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news content in an audience-first format. We are hiring a Head of Development to amplify and bring our consequential journalism to life on screen.

Why it Matters: As our Head of Axios Development, you will work to ensure existing and future video initiatives properly represent and amplify the Axios brand, mission and talent. This role will manage all Axios video initiatives including both the conception, pitching, and launch of new video ideas as well as our current HBO show. Serving as a collaborative and strategic leader, you will oversee a highly talented team and manage our relationships with talent agencies, production platforms, and all future partners within the broader streaming universe.

Go Deeper: In this role, you will make an impact to Axios through the following responsibilities:

  • Identify, nurture, and close future deals with streaming companies and take successful new shows to market
  • Manage relationships with entertainment agencies and entertainment lawyers
  • Spearhead all video initiatives, concepts and formats from end-to-end
  • Secure commissions with broadcasters and develop potential co-production opportunities with other Production companies
  • Identify and engage with new talent, including writers, originators, producers, and directors
  • Pitch and produce ideas for new shows across multiple formats (daily and long form)
  • Lead and grow a fast-paced, high performing team

The Details: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the video and streaming space
  • Ability to dream up, effectively pitch, and execute new video initiatives and ideas
  • Exceptional sales and business acumen, allowing you to effectively find, nurture, and close new video business deals
  • Highly collaborative, with a strong track record of working with colleagues across all levels and departments
  • A comprehensive understanding of programming that would interest target broadcasters
  • A knowledge of content successes and emerging trends among relevant national and international broadcasters
  • Exceptional management and leadership abilities; comfortable in a player/coach role
  • A commitment to building and nurturing a diverse and inclusive environment
  • A belief in Smart Brevity as the core writing style of Axios
