Quick Take: Axios is a growth-stage startup dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news content in an audience-first format. We’re hiring a Product Manager to join our growing data team to support (mainly) Consumer Insights initiatives!

Why it Matters: As a Product Manager, this person will collaborate with engineers, analysts, business partners, and other product managers to drive forward our data, insights, and initiatives across mission-critical Axios products.

Go Deeper: This PM plays a key role to support the data teams at Axios and is deeply involved in their day-to-day, under the direction of a more senior PM and the Head of Data, while making sure we’re investing in what matters. In this role, you will make an impact on Axios through the following responsibilities:

  • Partnering with data product leadership to support product backlogs and maintain roadmaps for Consumer Insights initiatives
  • Collaborating with data engineers and analysts to make sure they have clarity, clear pipelines, and stakeholder alignment
  • Ensuring all tickets are fully defined and ready for engineering in advance of the appropriate grooming or planning session
  • Partnering with data leadership to provide stakeholders with regular updates and clear communications
  • Gathering feedback on products in use to determine improvements and future iterations
  • Being keenly aware of key performance metrics, reporting needs, business goals, dependencies, and timelines

The Details: Ideal candidate should have an entrepreneurial spirit, be highly collaborative, exhibit a passion for building technology products, and have the following qualifications:

  • Experience working in a software development organization, preferably within a Consumer Insights function
  • An understanding of reporting, data products, and experience preparing communications and reports
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
  • Familiarity in writing product specifications/tickets in Jira, or similar ticket-tracking tool
  • An understanding of agile software development processes and metrics
  • Experience working with analytics, performance, and/or reporting tools
  • Preferred experience in working with large data sets and relational databases (Redshift, BigQuery, Postgres, MySQLetc)
  • Proficiency with SQL
  • Attention to detail and the discipline to dig beyond the surface layer on problems
  • A passion for solving problems and a strong belief in the Axios mission
