The Company

Outschool’s mission is to inspire kids to love learning. We achieve this by linking learning to kids’ interests, connecting them with other classmates who share their passions, and giving them the autonomy to pick their own paths. Our small group classes meet over live video chat with teachers who celebrate their unique strengths and empower all learners to develop confidence and a strong sense of self.

We’re also focused on removing barriers for historically underserved learners who face systemic challenges to their success. In 2020, we started Outschool.org and began offering financial assistance to families in need. We are currently creating an Educator Endowment Fund to appreciate the teachers who are so central to our mission of inspiring kids to love learning.

The Role

As our first Research Operations Lead, you’ll play an integral part in enabling our team to gather, synthesize and share user insights across the company. You won’t just improve how we conduct research — you’ll help us define, build, and scale our entire operational infrastructure.

We view ReOps as a force multiplier for user research, and we’re excited to welcome someone who will help us level up how we use customer insights to make decisions at Outschool. While you’ll work most closely with the UX Research team, you’ll also support and design processes to empower teammates from other disciplines, like Designers, PMs, and marketers, to conduct high-quality research.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Define and develop the infrastructure to enable teams across Outschool to conduct research efficiently and effectively (including non-researchers)
    • Collaborate with other disciplines like Finance, Legal, and Data to develop best practices re: collecting consent, fulfilling incentives, protecting privacy, and ensuring compliance
    • Identify and implement processes, tools, and/or documentation that improve the operations of the UX Research team as we scale
    • Oversee the recruitment process for user research participants, keeping inclusion and equity in mind
    • Create and maintain a research insights library
    • Procure and manage software tools
    • Track requests and key metrics, provide regular updates, and share research insights across the organization
    • Assist on research projects (developing scripts, taking notes, synthesizing and presenting findings)
    • Contribute to the development of a data and empathy-driven understanding of Outschool’s users and potential users

DESIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

    • 2+ years in UX Research or Research Ops, or 4+ years of experience in other operational or program management roles.
    • Track record of successfully designing and iterating on processes to streamline workflows & increase efficiencies
    • Excellent organizational, documentation and project management skills
    • Proactive and self-directed. Comfortable taking initiative and leading somewhat ambiguous projects with minimal supervision.
    • Highly collaborative people-person: you love connecting with and helping others, whether they’re users or teammates
    • Tech-savvy: you’re a pro at vetting, using, and providing trainings on new software and technologies
    • Passion for education and learning
