About the position
Wirecutter is seeking a senior SEO manager to lead editorial SEO strategy, working collaboratively across the company to scale and accelerate the growth of Wirecutter’s audience and business — and the business of The New York Times Company as a whole. As the senior SEO manager, you will report to Wirecutter’s director of editorial strategy and audience development, and be a critical leader on the Audience Development team. In this role, you’ll be supporting our editorial mission of providing high quality journalism and helping to shape what that looks like. If you’re a results-oriented and mission-driven leader who geeks out on building workflows and data-driven strategies, there are few roles more exciting. This role has the potential to be remote.
Craft a vision for Wirecutter’s search-first content strategy for evergreen reviews, product categories, trends, and events coverage.
Effectively communicate and advocate search strategy through close collaboration with editors and editorial leadership.
Partner with Digital, Analytics, Business Development, the rest of the Audience team, and other stakeholders to execute on a cohesive SEO strategy to grow audience.
Identify and communicate areas of opportunity, growth, and priority within the Wirecutter catalog to drive seasonal and evergreen content planning, and pursue SEO-driven opportunities to link coverage between Wirecutter, The New York Times, and other Standalone Products.
Share actionable insights with the editorial team and Wirecutter as a whole, including regular category audits and training sessions, and evangelize for the importance of SEO.
Evaluate and improve internal processes with an eye towards efficiency, transparency, and output.
Lead Wirecutter’s editorial SEO team and collaborate closely with the technical SEO team.
Serve as the people manager for editorial SEO team members, meeting with them regularly, approving timecards and expense reports, and doing mid-year and annual reviews.
6+ years of relevant SEO experience, with knowledge of digital publishing, editorial content, and an understanding of technical SEO. Evergreen content and domain migration experience is a plus.
Deep understanding of the search engine industry, competitors, best practices for evergreen search, search engine algorithms, and where SEO is heading.
Ability to analyze and act on data, and a knack for testing, experimentation and optimization.
Comfort using Google Analytics, SEMRush, SimilarWeb and other industry-leading SEO tools.
Must be an excellent communicator and collaborator.
Ability to motivate and develop a team and delegate responsibilities.
