We are looking for an engineer who will help us build a world class security team, and ensure that we can continue to support the company as we scale. You will be one of the early security team hires at Sourcegraph, where everyone contributes to all dimensions of our security posture. We’ll build a strong security culture as we help build a world class product.


    • Experience developing software as an engineer (i.e., writing code and contributing directly to applications)
    • Experience using and automating a wide range of defensive security tools
    • Experience making security architecture decisions
    • You are high agency
    • You communicate effectively in writing and documentation
    • 2+ hours of overlap within 0700-1200 Pacific Time

Nice to haves

    • Experience working at a startup environment
    • Go, TypeScript, Terraform (Note – if you don’t know these languages, you will be expected to learn them as part of your role.)
    • Kubernetes
    • Specific experience securing Golang applications
    • Desire to be a mentor for teammates

Interview process

      • You apply here.
      • If we reached out to you, a Recruiter will set up a 30 minute call to learn more about what you are looking for, tell you about Sourcegraph, and answer any questions that you have.
      • You speak with the Security manager for 45 minutes. Note that if the Recruiter screen was bypassed, the security manager chat will be 60 minutes. To prepare:
      • Read through our handbook to learn more about how we operate and to find answers to common questions that you might have.
      • We schedule a live, 90-minute pair-programming exercise with a Sourcegraph engineer.
      • We schedule remote interviews over video chat across multiple days.
      • 90 minute Security concepts: We give you a handful of open ended questions about how to operationalize security, and you’ll walk us through your Will interview with 2 of the following:
      • A member of the security team
      • Dax McDonald
    • 30m VP Engineering
    • 30m CTO
    • We check your references.
    • We make you a job offer.
