Four Kitchens is looking for a Business Development Associate to help manage and grow our sales pipeline. This person will join a small but highly successful Business Development team whose goal is to keep the Web Chefs busy with meaningful and rewarding work.

We are not “salesy.” Our goal is to help our clients achieve their digital strategy and business goals—not to meet a quota. We are consultative and generous with our time. Nobody is paid commission, so there’s no incentive to sell work that can’t be done well, on time, and on budget.

We choose our clients carefully. We do not accept work from organizations that: discriminate on the basis of any protected status; deny anyone’s civil or reproductive rights; publish intentionally misleading or false information; manufacture or deal in weapons of war; deal in addictive behaviors or substances; promote the use of nonrenewable energy sources; or promote, fund, or otherwise support any other organizations at odds with the above.

We seek clients who make the world a better place. We prioritize work from organizations that: advocate for underserved communities and groups; promote social justice; and work to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion, both within their own organizations and among the communities, constituents, and customers they serve.

We do not engage in unethical sales or marketing practices. This includes: buying or selling personal information; spamming people with unsolicited content or communication; anything less than full transparency when describing our services and capabilities; and “white-labeling” our services by obscuring the identity of our partners and contractors.

As a Web Chef, you will first and foremost exemplify our Core Values. You will also exhibit a natural curiosity and a passion for making really cool stuff for the web. We expect our whole team to self-lead and prioritize as distributed team members—your frequent communication and participation in company culture will be key indicators of your engagement at Four Kitchens. Being a constant self-educator is essential, so advanced degrees are not a requirement for this role as we believe that experience and passion are more important.

We’re committed to providing an inclusive workplace and building a diverse team, and that starts with leadership. At our core, we believe deeply in diversity and inclusiveness as being key parts of a healthy team. We aim to create an environment where everyone, from any background, can do their best work. So, if you look at our team page and don’t see yourself, don’t shy away. Come work with us!

As a Business Development Associate you will…

  • Manage deals in our sales pipeline.
  • Manage initiatives and tasks related to sales and marketing.
  • Collaborate with the team to produce estimates.
  • Create compelling proposals, presentations, and pitches.
  • Draft contracts and SOWs.
  • Ensure a seamless handoff from sales to the client services team.
  • Build relationships with potential clients during the sales process.
  • Build relationships with existing clients and members of our client services team to identify opportunities for additional work.
  • Maintain and regularly update sales and marketing collateral: document templates, messaging, sales literature, case studies, etc.
  • Create content related to our client work: case studies, launch announcements, client interviews, testimonials, etc.
  • Submit our work for industry awards.
  • Travel for pitches and city visits to meet clients, prospects, and partners. (Travel is on hold due to the pandemic.)
  • Attend events to develop contacts and sell our services. (Travel is on hold due to the pandemic.)

You’re our next Business Development Associate if you have…

  • At least three years of sales, account management, or project management experience at a digital agency.
  • A genuine interest in digital strategy, web design, and client services.
  • Excellent communication skills. You will spend a lot of time on video calls and writing emails and proposals.
  • Excellent customer service skills. You must be an active listener and problem-solver.
  • A drive to win new work and deepen existing relationships.
  • A diverse perspective and a willingness to share that perspective with our team.

About Four Kitchens

Four Kitchens is a leading digital strategy firm with strong roots in the open-source and free-culture communities. We build websites and apps to engage audiences on virtually any device, in our pursuit of setting knowledge free. We hire developers, designers, and strategists with strong consultative skills and a desire to make a difference, both to our clients and to each other.

Our Values and Culture

Our Web Chefs bring more than their professional skills to the kitchen and we encourage everyone to help guide the direction of our company. We all have a strong voice in what we do and how we do it. Collectively, our values—The Way Of the Web Chef—guide how we interact with each other, our colleagues, and our clients. Four Kitchens is not just a company — it’s a closely-knit team. We believe in the power of individuals coming together to do something bigger than they could have done alone.

Distributed Work

We believe good talent is where you find it and, as a distributed team, we’re excited to be pioneers in what we believe is the future of work culture. Even though we have no physical office, we strive to remain a collaborative community using tools like Slack and Zoom. The Web Chefs span four time zones and our goal is for team members to feel like they are working together in the same room, even if they’re thousands of miles apart.

Our Benefits

We care for our teammates as people, which is why we have a generous PTO policy, encourage time off, and have a great benefits package. Not only do we strive to maintain a good work-life balance, but we also participate in interesting and creative projects outside of client work to expand our abilities.

We hope you’ll join us!
