At CipherStash, our mission is to secure the world’s data.

And to do that we need to bring our encryption technology to as many language ecosystems as possible.

The core of our client libraries is built in Rust, and we’re building low-level clients and high-level ORM integrations in other languages on top of our Rust core.

This is where you come in!

You’re a C# engineer that deeply understands the Microsoft ecosystem. You’ve spent a lot of time with NHibernate and/or Entity Framework.

You’re a Java engineer that deeply understands the enterprise Java ecosystem. You’ve spent a lot of time with Hibernate and possibly JOOQ or JDBI.

You know their warts and gotchas. You’ve also been dabbling with, and possibly even delivered production projects in Rust.  Ideally, you’ll have worked with Rust specifically but if you have experience in other low level languages — particularly applied to cryptography or security applications — then we’d love to talk to you. And if you don’t know Rust, we’ll teach you!

CipherStash is a young upstart but is already making major waves in cyber security. In 2021 we went through the Startmate program, were selected as one of the Tech23, and closed a $3.3m AUD ($2.5m USD) seed round of funding led by AirTree. Our angel investors include the founder of Buildkite and alumni from Atlassian and ThreatMetrix.

Our technology is based in part on an “Order revealing encryption” scheme developed by researchers at Stanford in 2016 – one of whom is now an advisor to our company.

This is an opportunity to be a part of something truly special. Join a company that is working on the forefront of technology and with a bold and important mission.

We think the right candidate will:

  • Know C# OR enterprise Java extremely well – ORMs, tooling, best practices
  • Have a passion for data security and privacy
  • Be experienced in developing complex, high-performance back-ends and low-level systems
  • Have worked with compiled and low level languages like Rust, C, Go or Erlang
  • Be a great communicator and good human
  • Enjoy working on challenging problems

And it’d be awesome (but not required) if:

  • You have a good understanding of cryptography fundamentals (both theoretical and applied)
  • Have worked with Rust specifically (either professionally or otherwise)
  • You’ve contributed to or maintained open-source software
  • You’ve worked in a startup

All Stashies get to enjoy the following benefits:

  • An opportunity to participate in the Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP)
  • Paid Parental Leave of 16 weeks for any new parent including paid superannuation during that time
  • Other family and caregiver benefits including special leave for miscarriages or stillbirths
  • Flexible working hours and additional leave entitlements
  • Transparent salaries
  • Fully remote with option to work in Sydney based office (we’ll also happily pay for a desk in a co-working space in other cities)
  • Gear budget of $2k per year to buy whatever you like to set up your space (and that is yours to keep at the end of each year)
  • Company laptop of your choice
