About the role 

Mezmo is scaling and looking for a hands-on and experienced Controller to provide leadership and strategic direction for our accounting function. Reporting to the CFO, you will be responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and presentation of financial statements. The controller will provide strategic guidance to the leadership team around key decisions impacting financials. In addition, you will play a critical role in the finance leadership team in building needed infrastructure to support scale and growth.

Our controller will interact regularly with senior leadership and will own the development and maintenance of the financial controls ecosystem. You will also manage the relationship with our auditors and tax advisors and will regularly provide financial information to investors, board members, and the executive team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in SaaS accounting, be able to develop and execute effective controls and tax strategies, and have a strong ability to gain alignment with the leadership team on the historical, current, and future financial position of the company.

You will:

  • Be a decision maker around core accounting and tax compliance and systems
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Produce monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements that are accurate and produced in a timely fashion in accordance with GAAP
  • Build streamlined processes between departments
  • Stay abreast of new accounting standards
  • Increase employee equity literacy by explaining complex concepts in simple terms
  • Lead a high-performing team by recruiting and developing talent
  • Partner closely with FP&A and revenue operations
  • Manage equity
  • Establish strong relationship with auditors and be primary point person for annual audits
  • Devise and oversee corporate insurance program

You have:

  • Proven ability to influence decisions at the highest level with a collaborative approach.
  • Strong ability to clearly communicate business insights and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Experience in technical accounting
  • Owned the close process end to end
  • Experience in streamlining cross-functional operations
  • Proactive and self-motivated to solve problems; comfortable with a high degree of responsibility in ambiguous situations
  • Track record of leading, growing, and developing high-performing teams, with a focus on hands-on development and coaching
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting preferred
  • A CPA is a plus
  • 8+ years of accounting experience at a growth tech company, with a background in SaaS
