Overview
The Director of Strategic Programs is responsible for overseeing CAF’s helpline program, ensuring clients receive compassionate and trauma-informed support. This role involves managing day-to-day operations, including case management, coordinating practical support services, managing case workflows, and facilitating financial commitments. The successful candidate will also excel in volunteer management, engaging and training volunteers to create a supportive environment.
Additionally, they will serve as the primary point of contact for clinic communications related to funding pledges and patient care, fostering strong partnerships with external organizations. Utilizing helpline data and trends, the Director will influence program development and enhance service delivery. This position requires a proactive mindset and the ability to implement systems that drive operational efficiency, improve program effectiveness, and support CAF’s mission to provide critical reproductive healthcare services in a dynamic environment.
RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
Strategy and Program Management (40%)Â

Partner with CAF staff and board leadership to develop and execute strategic plans that align with CAF’s mission and drive organizational growth.

Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of case management and practical support programs

Ensure all CAF programs are aligned with best practices in reproductive justice, remaining effective, secure, and responsive to community needs and adaptable to the ever-changing abortion landscape.

Collaborate with the Director of Development and the Director of Client Services to update and manage department budgets according to organizational guidelines.

Support the Director of Client Services and the Director of Policy and Movement Building in developing the volunteer management program, ensuring volunteer roles are clearly defined and aligned with CAF’s mission.

Work alongside the Directors of Client Services and Policy and Movement Building to lead volunteer onboarding and training, as well as providing technical assistance for helpline technology and doula services.

Interact with legal representation to ensure CAF’s compliance with laws related to program delivery, client support, and operations.

Act as a key liaison between CAF and clinic partners, support organizations, and funds, to enhance impact and broaden support networks.

Establish and track yearly and quarterly goals, managing projects, initiatives, and campaigns effectively.

Regularly update board leadership on programmatic and operational progress and needs.
Helpline Program Delivery and Client Support (30%)Â

Manage a caseload of callers, providing compassionate and trauma-informed support through intake, case management, and follow-up.

Ensure timely and accurate financial commitments to clients and clinics.

Assist the Director of Client Services in the coordination and distribution of Practical Support services to callers.
Monitor and respond to inquiries on the CAF administrative phone line, inbox, and messages.
Data and Evaluation (20%)Â

Implement and manage systems for tracking program and helpline outcomes.

Utilize data to drive decision-making and assess program effectiveness.

Prepare and present analytical reports to the Board of Directors and funders.

Continuously evaluate and enhance program effectiveness and security.
Special Projects and Initiatives (10%)Â

Represent CAF at events, panels, and presentations to promote the organization’s mission.

Participate in convenings, summits, retreats, and other key meetings.

Staff is working fully remote for the foreseeable future. Regular hours must include attendance during core business hours from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday. Expect some work on weeknight evenings as part of the normal 40 hour work week.

Must be able to participate in online virtual communications including email, video conferencing, and other online tools used to facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing. Employees are regularly required to communicate effectively via computer.
BENEFITS AND SALARY
Carolina Abortion Fund offers a competitive benefits package that covers full health, vision, and dental, with the option to add dependents to coverage, an optional retirement plan, and a coworking space stipend. The salary for this position is $70,000 with a salary increase for bilingual (Spanish) staff.
