As the Business Development and Sales Associate at Truss, you will help to grow our client base in both the Federal Government and commercial sectors. This role will lead the full sales cycle, from outreach to contract award, while maintaining Truss’ vision of excellence for all prospective clients.  This  position will also work cross-functionally with our Client Engagement practice, Engineering teams, Human Centered Designers, and Product teams to assess, staff, and scope new opportunities.


This is a mid-level position supporting sales leadership and helping to develop, and improve the sales and business development processes at Truss. Working alongside the established sales team, you will help to identify gaps, opportunities, define our emerging sales processes and develop and maintain documentation. You will have the chance to identify, assess, and capture relevant sales opportunities in both the government and commercial space, lead government sales proposals, and identify teaming partners for relevant joint pursuits. This is a unique opportunity to join a relatively new, high-impact team, within a collaborative and dynamic environment.


The Business Development and Sales Associate will join a small but growing sales team. As such, you will work with a cross-functional team to help guide and develop newer team members as the practice continues to grow. The ideal candidate will possess an equity and inclusion mindset as it applies to business development, team makeup, opportunities, mentorship, and building our sales opportunity funnel. This role will be expected to uphold Truss’ values as they work cross-functionally to evaluate and execute sales opportunities.

The salary range for this position is $107,500 – $137,000


    • Experience in federal sales, business development, and capture
    • Familiarity with government contracting vehicles and buying processes
    • Understanding of the software development life-cycle and agile methodologies
    • Effective project management skills
    • Knowledge of general sales stages and processes
    • Prior use of common tracking and communication tools (such as CRMs, search databases, Zoom, Slack, Gsuite)
    • Clear written and verbal communication skills
    • An adaptive, empathetic, and collaborative mindset

Within the first month, you will…

-Assist with market research response submissions, and help contribute to the sales process

Within three months, you will…

Have a solid understanding of the business (what we do, how we do it, what makes us unique)

-Be able to leverage the broader sales team to determine which opportunities are worthy of pursuit

-Begin to identify conferences, events, and other networking opportunities to showcase Truss’ capabilities and engage prospective clients

Within six months, you will…

-Lead at least one formal sales proposal functioning as the capture manager and ensure that our response meets all requirements

-Have led at least one sales meeting from your external outreach

Within one year, you will…

Lead multiple sales proposals and engage in multiple sales outreach activities to identify new, qualified sales opportunities

-Helped to create and maintain a robust 12 month sales pipeline
