Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the DevOps Manager will work with members of our talented DevOps Engineering team to support and develop their skills and careers, as well as having a hands-on role in scaling our modern Linux security platform. Our technology encompasses Linux user-space agents, kernel/eBPF and hosted services. Your work will help with end to end infrastructure improvements and automation at scale.
Your team will build and operate large-scale systems and work with engineering and security to ensure security, high availability, and scalability within our platform. You will develop tools and processes that enable our engineering teams to deliver continuously, deploying in a seamless and coordinated effort. You will promote a strong reliability culture by partnering with software engineering, security, and architecture to solve operational problems.
You’ll bring your previous experience in developing high-performance engineering teams and contributing to department and company wide strategic initiatives, from the perspective of supporting internal technical customers. You will manage Cmd’s infrastructure budget, AWS deployments, and the interface between the DevOps and product teams as they work to accelerate engineering.

Responsibilities

    • Management of DevOps team members inclusive of coaching the team on process and best practices, as well as enabling constant individual improvement
    • Develop a full understanding of the business, and our customers to effectively design, develop, and implement tools and processes that enable a highly available, scalable, and reliable customer experience
    • Anticipate and manage technology evolution and map to business solutions
    • Work with the engineering teams on product design, decisions and troubleshooting
    • Listen to and support teams in problem-identification and decision-making.
    • Formulate and drive process and organizational improvement which enhances overall effectiveness. Understand business processes, issues, problems, and apply appropriate technical standards and solutions.
    • Lead the team in designing and building systems for maximum performance, reliability and scalability
    • Manage some operations and security operations tasks
    • Assist in hiring DevOps and SRE staff

Technical Skills and Experience

      • 5+ years of progressive DevOps engineering experience and 2+ year of DevOps leadership experience
      • Knowledge of compliance frameworks (PCI, SOX, SOC 2, ISO 27001) and the ability to apply their requirements and concepts to a complex environment
      • Experience with big data pipelines would be ideal, but is not required
      • Experienced technologist – solid understanding of agile and lean methodologies
Strong hands-on technical experience, knowledge, and understanding of:
      • Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud ecosystems
      • The Linux OS (RHEL/Debian/AWS Linux)
      • Managing production-critical infrastructures and DevOps environments
      • Configuration management and automation, and infrastructure-as-code
      • Infrastructure design and IAC/orchestration tools such as Terraform / Saltstack preferred
      • CI/CD pipeline / workflow tools such as Jenkins / Git / Jira / ZendeskMessage brokers, ideally Kafka
      • Database management, optimizations, scaling and sharding
      • Auto-scaling and auto-healing environments, Kubernetes
      • Mutable-immutable hybrid environments
      • Network, server, and application-status monitoring (Prometheus preferred)
      • Programming in Python or Go
