Overview
Perform and lead project engineering activities in support of Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) projects. Provide technical guidance and prepare technical documentation for related systems engineering activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead the technical team consisting of MEPPI engineers, MELCO engineers, and contractors to achieve project goals on time and within budget.
- Lead technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
- Track and close technical issues by tasking relevant subject matter experts.
- Function as main contact with customer for schedule, status, development, clarifications, allocations and design document verification to ensure compliance of the CBTC design and installation to customer requirements.
- Prepare and disseminate project status reports. Maintain contract document requirement lists and track progress of items.
- Prepare and/or review customer correspondence and contract technical documentation.
- Oversee and direct work of contractors. Negotiate technical scope with contractors.
- Lead technical activities of MEPPI, MELCO, contractors, vendors and customer for successful execution of bids and projects.
- Prepare system operation plans and reports. Make commercial and technical presentations.
- Provide technical guidance on the testing and commissioning of the CBTC system.
- Perform, participate in, or direct the following as required: requirements specification, architecture description, interface description, system integration and development plans, design reviews, verification and validation, and testing and commissioning.
- Perform system integration between wayside equipment, vehicle equipment and other rail signaling subsystems as required.
- Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Engineering Department by conducting business with other MEPPI departments and outside contacts in a timely and cooperative manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field with a minimum 7 years of experience in project management, project engineering, system engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of CBTC, wayside signaling equipment and radio communication networks.
- Advanced knowledge of vital system and vital software development methodologies.
- Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers and employees.
- Advanced knowledge of the development lifecycle and lifecycle products.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products and scheduling software
