Overview

The Data Infrastructure teams at HubSpot are responsible for building and maintaining data storage technologies across the product. Teams work with a variety of open source technologies like MySQL, Vitess, Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Kafka, and Elastic Search all running on AWS. A number of our teams are active contributors to the Open Source projects they work on.

This role is specific for the Batch Processing team that handles processing big data for HubSpot, running around 16k jobs per day with around 5k map tasks running concurrently with our Hadoop infrastructure. Our Spark infrastructure runs over 70 clusters a day and is growing.

In this role you will:

  • Build automation, tooling, and monitoring to provide developers with the knowledge necessary for understanding and optimizing datastore usage and minimizing the impact of any operational issues for clients
  • Build datastore clients for more efficient monitoring and analysis of usage patterns in a multi-tenant multi-region environment
  • Maintain operational responsibility over a large volume of traffic to and from these data stores
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and assist them in growing their skills. Help verify the correctness of their work, educate them on any gaps in their knowledge of the HubSpot platform
  • Assist other product engineers at HubSpot on their usage of our tooling for Hadoop and Spark
  • Educate others on the most effective way to store and interact with data
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and DevOps practices
  • Write Java REST APIs as backend services to provide diagnostic data for troubleshooting as well as auditing of HubSpot cluster management
  • Investigate advanced batch processing issues on behalf of the HubSpot engineering organization to ensure all engineering teams meet company performance metrics and SLAs for Microservices accessing streaming data stores

Cash compensation range: 165200-214800 USD Annually

The cash compensation above includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are based on a few different factors unique to each candidate, including their skills, experience, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
