At RStudio PBC, we aim to create delightful software for data science, scientific research, and technical communication. Our core offering is an open-source data science toolchain, and we aim to make it available to everyone, regardless of their economic means. Our customers are leading-edge innovators in analytics, machine learning, big data, and similar domains and generally work in R and Python.

RStudio’s Solutions Engineers (SEs) help our customers understand and realize the benefits of RStudio’s Pro Products and the R and Python workflows they enable. SEs spend their time helping customers deploy and use our professional products and driving documentation and product changes based on their direct customer interaction.

As a member of the solutions engineering team you will have the opportunity to grow and specialize your technical skills. You will work closely with the best engineers in the R and Python communities; you will help customer IT organizations solve complex problems; and you will help define best practices for using R and Python in production. Solutions engineers have a tremendous opportunity to grow their expertise and influence at RStudio.

As an SE, you would…

  • Join calls with our customer success and sales teams to discuss technical architecture, data science workflows, and usage of RStudio’s Pro Products.
  • Lead customers through installing, configuring, and integrating RStudio’s Pro Products and collaborate with the support and product teams to resolve escalated support issues.
  • Create documentation, demos, and marketing collateral, and influence product direction based on your day-to-day customer interactions.
  • Have a voice in the open source data science community by attending trade shows (approx 2-4 times per year) and giving public and private presentations, trainings, webinars, and workshops.
  • Learn constantly. The team covers an enormous scope, and nobody can understand it all. We deeply value teammates who are both humble and hungry.

Our work covers a tremendous scope of data science, programming, and IT topics. No current or prospective SE will be an expert in everything we do. Strong candidates will have worked on or supported a data science team using R or Python for multiple years.

You should let us know about any experience or expertise in…

  • Putting R and Python into production. We are especially interested in experience managing R and Python environments with virtualenv, venv, renv, packrat or similar.
  • Enterprise infrastructure in Linux including system administration, authentication, networking, and containers/virtualization.
  • Explaining complex problems with patience and empathy live and in writing.
  • Working across your organization to solve challenging problems. We work extensively with other teams at RStudio, and developing informal relationships across the organization is part of the role.
