The team currently consists of a Technical Accounting Director and SEC Reporting Director.  We are excited to expand our team to support the continued growth of Upwork, and we are looking for a growth-oriented individual who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves. You’ll want this role if you want to assist in the preparation of Upwork’s accounting policies, address technical accounting challenges, prepare external financial statements and SEC filings and contribute technical experience to a high-functioning team in a fast growing, tech company setting.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of financial statements, note disclosures, and management’s discussion and analysis, including rolling forward quarterly and annual filings and participating in the review process
  • Timely filing of Form 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, U.S. Census Bureau and other filings
  • Preparation of quarterly presentations for the audit committee and external auditors
  • Assist with the preparation of the quarterly shareholder letter and other earnings materials
  • Execute tie out controls over Form 10-K, 10-Q, shareholder letter, and other documents, as needed
  • Work cross-functionally with finance, legal, and investor relations
  • Calculation of EPS including GAAP, Non-GAAP, and dilutive shares
  • Responsible for the application of accounting guidance to unique and complex accounting transactions and preparation of technical memos supporting accounting positions
  • Develop new accounting policies and maintenance of current accounting policies
  • Provision of technical advice to accounting department
  • Assist in the creation and execution of effective internal controls over financial reporting
  • Assist with other special projects as needed

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • 5+ years of combined accounting experience including 2-3 years of Big Four public accounting experience with direct experience auditing publicly traded global corporations or corporate experience at global, publicly traded growth companies in technical accounting/reporting roles
  • Ability to analyze a transaction, apply accounting literature, and clearly document an accounting position in a white paper
  • A proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and to build strong working relationships cross-functionally
  • Demonstrable leadership ability and experience building and working with high-performing teams
  • Experience with Workiva (WDesk), Shareworks, and Oracle and experience creating and analyzing complex excel models
